A Beautiful Day at Douglas Preserve
Oil 10 x 10"
by Marian Fortunati
"I set out for a mini-road trip up to Santa Barbara where I planned to explore old favorite painting spots and discover a new one. The California Art Club had sent out an invitation for three chapters - Malibu/Ventura, Central Coast, and Santa Barbara - and a wide range of artists showed up to explore the Douglas Preserve and paint and find friends. I went to the Carpenteria Bluffs before heading to the Douglas Preserve. I have explored and painted at the Carpenteria Bluffs and really love this place. I knew the spring would bring out lots of beautiful scenes. I was not disappointed.
I had never been to the Douglas Preserve but I've heard my daughter talk about it. She lives in the area and has hiked around many times. She was not in town but I didn't want to miss the opportunity so I drove up anyway. It was a glorious day. Sun and fresh flowers and grasses. There were lots of artists and other hikers around -- even hang gliders! I met old friends and made some new acquaintances. I had a lot of fun and am glad I went. Even better, my little plein air piece turned out to be one I really liked!"
