These Shoes Are Made For Talking: Every Pair Tells a Story

A series of shoe portraits by artist Terry Romero Paul

Artist Terry Romero Paul was inspired to create a unique series of shoe portraits after hearing Delaware Attorney General, Beau Biden speak about his military service in Iraq. He left his work and family, replaced dress shoes that he wore to his job as Attorney General and put on combat boots. The artist wondered how the simple act of lacing up these boots changed him?

With that thought Terry Romero Paul decided to paint people’s shoes to tell their individual stories. A partial list of the shoe portraits include:

*   Cowboy boots belonging to Andres Maldonado, DJ for “La Nueva” KSCA 1010.9
*   High heel dancing sandals worn by Cheryl Burke, professional dancer and a star of “Dancing with the Stars”
*   Adidas painting shoes worn by renowned artist Shepard Fairey

There is not another piece of clothing that is more personal than our shoes. We work, play and sweat in them. They mold to our feet and tell the story of our lives.  The artist carefully chose each pair of shoes based on the owner’s compelling story about them. The story of each pair of shoes is therefore displayed alongside its portrait.

Artist Terry Romero Paul created a wonderful book about the series entitled “These Shoes are Made for Talking”.  An autographed copy of the book by the author will be provided to collectors who acquire a piece from this unique series.
